The role of a Teaching Assistant at our school involves supporting children with complex and challenging behaviours, delivering tailored learning experiences and fostering a non‑judgemental, flexible environment.
Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning, working with children 1:1 or in small group sessions.
- Manage classroom resources.
- Lead children on educational trips and visits.
- Share lunch with children who struggle socially.
- Maintain a basic understanding of English and Maths.
- Keep children safe, particularly during heightened behaviours, using strong behaviour‑management skills and excellent communication.
- Create, play and teach games to pupils to develop their social skills or further learning.
- Produce engaging displays that support teaching and create an exceptional learning environment.
- Celebrate success.
- Participate in therapeutic training sessions and reflect on challenging situations.
Qualifications
- Resilient, persistent and solution‑focused, able to wear many hats and adapt quickly.
- Strong communication skills and a non‑judgemental approach.
- Basic knowledge of English and Maths.
- Experience or willingness to develop behaviour‑management techniques.
- Commitment to working with children who have SEN, SEND, SEMH, autism, ADHD or communication difficulties.
