Curnow School is an outstanding special school and a founding academy of The Special Partnership Trust, a multi‑academy trust in the South West of England that provides a consistently high quality standard of special education across the region.
Curnow School caters for pupils aged 2 – 19 with severe or profound learning difficulties as well as students with autism. Our younger students attend Curnow Lower School, a purpose‑built provision on the same site as Illogan Primary School, which offers a conducive environment for their needs and supports our inclusive learning goals. Older students attend Curnow Upper School in Redruth, a well‑equipped provision for a wide range of needs. The Karder Hub in St Columb Major caters for a small number of Reception and Year 1 pupils. This role is for a SEN Teaching Assistant at Curnow Upper School.
The Role
We are looking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to work as part of a wider team on a fixed‑term contract until 31 August 2027. Working hours are 8:50 am – 3:30 pm. We advertise for five days per week, but applications from candidates wishing to work fewer days will also be considered; please state your preference and location on your application.
Experience of supporting pupils with challenging behaviours and severe physical and/or learning difficulties is essential. A warm and empathetic personality and a desire to work professionally with others to deliver the best support for pupils are also vital.
Key Responsibilities
- Build positive, supportive relationships that help pupils grow in confidence, independence and self‑esteem.
- Assist with the delivery of an ambitious, specialist curriculum tailored to individual needs.
- Provide hands‑on support for pupils with a wide range of learning, physical and behavioural needs.
The role may change during the day depending on each pupil’s support needs. The successful candidate will work alongside class teachers and other support staff and follow recommendations from multi‑agency teams.
