Hours 35 hours per week; hybrid working (2‑3 days in the office per week)

Do you want to work on some of the biggest issues affecting the UK, representing many of the nation’s largest and best‑known brands? We’re looking for a Communications Assistant to join our Corporate Affairs & Communications team.

From health and nutrition, trade and economic growth, through to food security, sustainability and skills, as an integral part of the FDF Press Office, you’ll be helping raise the profile and maintain the positive reputation of the UK’s largest manufacturing industry.

You’ll support press office and wider communications activity, helping to secure coverage, respond to media enquiries, maintain relationships with journalists and stakeholders, and support marketing and social media activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the FDF Press Office to help ensure our positions on key issues are represented in the media
  • Monitoring the news agenda, including social media, and developing an understanding of the issues affecting FDF and its members.
  • Maintaining key press office processes, including databases, licences, contact lists and media monitoring systems
  • Tracking communications activity and producing reports to demonstrate the impact of the team’s work.
  • Supporting the members’ PR Discussion Group, including sending alerts, taking minutes and responding to enquiries.
  • Producing content including press releases, reactive statements, feature articles, social media, website and email content.
  • Supporting with event organisation, including invitations, event materials and room set‑up.
  • Building relationships with journalists and supporting responses to media enquiries
  • Taking part in the out of hours press office rota.

Requirements

  • Some communications experience, whether through paid work, volunteering or similar opportunities.
  • A passion for current affairs and an interest in news and politics.
  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to create content for different audiences, and turn complex information into engaging content.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence working with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • A curious mindset and the ability to quickly understand complex issues.
  • An interest in the food and drink manufacturing industry.
  • The ability to work at pace, adapt to changing priorities and stay calm under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and a collaborative approach
