Job Summary
Due to a continued growth in business, we are seeking a Machinist to join the team in Western Approach. This site is an International Centre of Excellence in composite wing structure design and production, manufacturing composite wing spars and Fixed Trailing Edge assemblies for some of the world’s most popular aircraft.
As a Machinist reporting to the Team Leader at GKN Aerospace, you will join a small team and work collectively to create a great working environment through a culture of continuous improvement and a safe working ambience.
The successful applicant will work a 7‑day fortnight shift pattern (12‑hour day shifts) with a 28% shift allowance:
Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday

How You’ll Contribute
- Ensure parts are produced on a ‘right first time’ basis.
- Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date.
- Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system.
- Responsible for highlighting any non‑conformance to the Process Team Leader.
- Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures.
- Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974.
- Management of machine stoppages with maintenance and escalation as required.
- Completion of Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM).
- Management of 5S within area, e.g. tooling, work set station and general area.
- Champion ‘Export Control’ compliance activities, ensuring you and where applicable, members of your team, adhere to the site ‘Technology Control Plan (TCP)’, guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems, Health and Safety Requirements.
- Compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities.
- Reporting of all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions.
- Responsible for keeping machines tidy and maintaining good standards of housekeeping in designated work area.

- A recognised machining indentured apprenticeship and ideally previous manufacturing experience in a factory environment.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives.
- Self‑motivated, a team player with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to effectively work and collaborate in small teams with Team Leaders.
What We’ll Offer
- Starting salary of £35,930 for the first 3 months while obtaining an A stamp; once certified you will be on a salary of £37,542, plus a 28% shift premium, totalling £48,054.
