Overview

An established and growing independent planning consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Town Planner to join its team in Sutton Coldfield. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded planning professional to take on a senior role within a respected consultancy that delivers planning advice across a diverse range of residential, commercial, mixed-use, rural and strategic development projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing client relationships, leading projects, mentoring junior team members and contributing to the continued growth of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a varied portfolio of planning projects from inception through to determination and appeal. Prepare and review planning applications, appraisals, planning statements and appeal submissions.
  • Provide strategic planning advice to clients, landowners, developers and other stakeholders.
  • Manage client relationships and act as a trusted advisor throughout the planning process.
  • Represent clients at meetings, public consultations, hearings and inquiries where required.
  • Liaise with local authorities, consultees and professional teams to progress projects efficiently.
  • Support business development activities and assist in securing new instructions.
  • Mentor and support junior planners, helping to develop technical and professional skills within the team.
  • Keep up to date with planning legislation, policy changes and industry developments.

Qualifications

  • Qualified. Significant experience within either a planning consultancy, local authority or development environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of the UK planning system.
  • Proven experience managing planning applications and complex development projects.
  • Excellent report writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Full UK driving licence pre
