Hours: 37 hours per week Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Friday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Pay rate: Upto 24 per hour GBP
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Proving Test Technician to join a global engineering development team.
In this role, you will work on a variety of powertrain installation, integration, shakedown, and testing projects for off‑highway machines and heavy vehicles. This position offers hands‑on exposure to a diverse range of technical environments, including traditional Internal Combustion (IC) engines, electric systems, and electric vehicle (EV) workshops, with technicians rotating between workshops to gain broader skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Install prototype, pilot, and production powertrains into various off‑highway machinery.
- Instrument powertrains with speed pickups, thermocouples, pressure transducers, and other sensors.
- Diagnose and fix mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults on both powertrains and full machines; fabricate parts using manual machining, welding, and fabrication tools; produce electrical looms.
- Operate off‑highway vehicles such as excavators, telehandlers, and loaders within the test facility, adhering to health and safety procedures and 5S standards.
Candidate Requirements
Minimum of 4 years of hands‑on experience in a workshop, testing, or maintenance environment working with engines, automotive systems, or heavy machinery.
Technical Skills
- Strong diagnostic and testing skills across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to work across IC, electric, or EV platforms.
Tools & Drawings
- Proficiency in hand/power tools, lifting equipment, and welding gear.
- Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
Qualifications
A completed or ongoing engineering or motor mechanics apprenticeship, or a relevant higher education qualification (such as NVQ Level 3), is highly desirable.
Soft Skills
Must be an adaptable team player who thrives in a fast‑paced, evolving environment and is eager to learn across different functions.
IT Skills
Good PC literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
