The Role
As Transport Planner, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient utilisation of vehicles and drivers while maintaining exceptional service standards for customers. You will be responsible for coordinating daily transport activities, driving operational efficiencies, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule vehicles and drivers to meet operational requirements across multiple departments.
- Proactively source backloads to minimise empty running and maximise fleet utilisation.
- Identify and implement operational improvements with a focus on cost control and customer satisfaction.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Liaise closely with department managers and operational teams to ensure smooth service delivery.
- Monitor transport costs and contribute to accurate customer pricing.
- Ensure compliance with CPC regulations and transport legislation.
- Identify opportunities to improve service levels and operational performance.
- Manage fleet operations within agreed budgets.
- Ensure approved subcontractors are utilised where required.
- Maintain accurate records and work effectively with transport management systems.
- Ensure safe load distribution across all vehicles.
- Promote and maintain compliance with all health, safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have previous transport planning experience and thrive in a fast-paced logistics environment.
Requirements
- Experience planning company-owned vehicles and managing subcontractor or owner-driver resources.
- Knowledge of a wide range of truck and trailer types.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft 365 applications.
- Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and a proactive approach.
