Overview

Senior lawyer in the Consumer Relationships Legal team, working closely with UK Private Banking and Consumer & Commercial business areas. Provides legal advice to support products, services and digital propensions while managing regulatory risk and delivering excellent customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive, influential legal advice to senior stakeholders and the Legal/Secretariat community.
  • Advise the UK Private Banking business on consumer relationships, regulatory matters, products, services, end‑to‑end customer journeys and digital propositions.
  • Support transformation projects and delivery of changes to products and services.
  • Shape strategy concerning legal, regulatory and industry change, particularly around UKPB and consumer duty.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, industry peers and external lawyers.
  • Lead and mentor a team of legal professionals, including delegated line‑management responsibilities.
  • Identify gaps in legal knowledge and design, deliver and organise training for the team and business partners.
  • Review service delivery and propose continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with other legal teams and participate in Consumer Legal and Legal Secretariat community initiatives.

Qualifications

  • UK‑qualified lawyer with a minimum of 5 years post‑qualification experience.
  • Relevant experience in financial services, preferably within private banking, and a solid grasp of Payment Services Regulations and Consumer Duty.
  • Experience advising on matters under the consumer credit regime and knowledge of BCOBS, KYL/AML and ringfencing.
  • Strong understanding of cross‑border lending considerations is an advantage.
  • Excellent influencing, communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging regulators and industry bodies.
  • Proven track record delivering legal advice in complex, cross‑functional environments.
  • Ability to adapt rapidly to new legal and technological developments.
  • Strong commercial and risk judgment and ability to distil complex regulation into clear, risk‑based advice.
  • Capability to manage a diverse, high‑volume workload in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Interest and experience in developing others and fostering a collaborative team culture.
