We are seeking GP bank staff to work overnight evening shifts.

  • We reserve the right to close the advert before the date advertised.
  • Shifts: Midnight to 8am. Please do NOT apply if you are unable to complete overnight shifts.
  • Rates of pay: £100 per hour.
  • We also seek GPs who can cover EA and SDA shifts in practices. Refer to our adverts for those shifts.
  • As a GP, you will provide face‑to‑face care in our urgent care centre for patients.
  • You will work directly with the Whipps X employees, including nursing and administration teams.
  • Other key communication and relationships include patients, carers, acute trusts, GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, neighbourhood teams, community hospitals, social care staff, local hospices, and palliative care teams.
  • As a key member of the Whipps X Urgent Care Centre (UTC), you will provide face‑to‑face care for patients who access the service, either walk‑in or appointments booked through NHS 111 or directed by a healthcare professional.
  • You will ensure that all patients are dealt with appropriately, efficiently, and with high quality standards.
  • Bank staff shifts: shifts starting midnight until 8:00am.

Main duties of the job

  • You will follow Whipps X operational policies and procedures.
  • You will work as a GP on our bank staff for shifts starting midnight until 8:00am.
  • Generally the role requires similar skills to an in‑hours GP. You will assist in developing an integrated approach to patient care across the UTC.
  • For EA and/or SDA shifts, these will be practice‑based. Refer to adverts for shift times.

Clinical responsibilities

  • Act as an autonomous clinician providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment, where appropriate, for patients attending the UTC.
  • Accurately triage and prioritise patients to elicit history of event or illness, including past medical and drug history.
  • Evaluate clinical information from history and examination and initiate appropriate treatment, referral or discharge.
  • Refer patients to appropriate care settings where necessary.
  • Prescribe, supply, and/or administer medication and treatments according to agreed protocols, within scope of competence.
  • Maintain accurate, contemporaneous computerised clinical records of every contact, including history, examination, diagnosis, plan of care, advice given, treatment, and recommended follow‑up. Document any adverse event, safeguarding issue, or other notifiable matter.
  • Provide clinical support to the UTC.

Qualifications

  • MRCGP or equivalent.
  • Currently registered and on a performer’s list.
  • Valid registration with the GMC.
  • Licence to practice.
  • Recent evidence of continued academic and professional development.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office software.
  • Good team player able to work within a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Ability to work under own initiative.
  • Adhere to the Confidentiality Code and Data Protection Regulations.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for general practice.
