About Ainscough Industrial Services

Ainscough Industrial Services (AIS) is the UK’s largest privately owned industrial engineering businesses, operating across five specialist subsidiaries: AIS Vanguard Ltd, AIS Eurelo, VIG Industrial Relocation, Flegg Projects, and AIS Wind Energy. Each subsidiary operates under the Group Infrastructure but runs its own business model in line with the core offering of the particular business model.

We deliver complex engineering solutions across machinery installation, heavy and technical lifting, industrial relocation, CDM and project management and wind energy projects, both in the UK and internationally. With 15 branches across the UK and Europe and continued growth planned, this is an exciting time to join AIS.

The Role

As a Plant & Fleet Fitter, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our diverse fleet of specialist plant and lifting equipment operating safely, reliably, and at peak performance.

Based at our dedicated Wigan workshop, you’ll work as part of a small, skilled team maintaining and repairing everything from mobile cranes and hydraulic gantry systems to HGVs, generators, and specialist lifting equipment. This is a hands‑on, varied role where no two days are the same and your expertise genuinely makes a difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, and repair a wide range of specialist equipment including mobile cranes, heavy FLTs, hydraulic gantry systems, and lifting gear
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs on HGVs, trailers, diesel generators, lighting towers, and other small plant
  • Diagnose faults across mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Support UK-wide breakdowns when required
  • Ensure all work is completed to high safety, quality, and compliance standards

What We’re Looking For

  • A recognised apprenticeship or qualification in a relevant mechanical or engineering discipline
  • Strong experience in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic maintenance, ideally within heavy plant, construction, or industrial environments
  • A practical, hands‑on problem solver with a “right-first-time” approach
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, can‑do attitude
  • Highly organised, safety‑focused, and quality‑driven
  • Experience working on cranes or similar specialist plant equipment is highly desirable

Why Join Us

  • Be part of a growing, internationally focused industrial engineering business with long-term stability and ambition
  • Work on industry-leading lifting and specialist plant equipment in a well‑equipped, dedicated workshop
  • Join a close‑knit, experienced team where your skills and expertise are genuinely valued
  • Competitive reward package including:
  • Annual company bonus scheme
  • Monthly rewards platform
  • Company pension
  • Company benefits scheme
  • Death in Service benefit

All business travel fully supported, with travel expenses or a company vehicle provided where required.
