About the Role
What does the average day look like?
As a Senior Commercial Manager you will support internal customers with escalated issues related to claims, variations, novations and extensions. You will shape and implement commercial strategies, seek financial authorities, develop and review procurement activities, oversee compliance against governance and contribute to lessons learned to deliver best value. You will work closely with suppliers and colleagues to negotiate prices, manage contract clauses and resolve challenges. You will challenge reporting accuracy, ensure corporate governance compliance and provide clear advice on changes or disputes. Additionally, you will drive improvements and mentor commercial staff.

You’ll join a supportive and collaborative Commercial & Procurement team that plays a key role in keeping Britain’s railways running efficiently and safely. The environment is fast‑paced and dynamic, with a focus on value for money, compliance and strategic objectives.
Your Experience and Skills
We are looking for an experienced Senior Commercial Manager with strong commercial and contract management expertise, confident leadership, and excellent communication skills. You should be able to build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels and guide teams to achieve results that deliver value and meet business needs.
Essential Criteria
- Knowledge of railway and construction industry conditions of contract
- Educated to degree level or equivalent and professional qualification
- Experienced negotiator
- Experience in resolving construction contract disputes
- 5 years’ relevant railway and/or construction experience
- Knowledge of railway commercial contract management
Desirable Criteria
- Experience managing and developing a team of staff
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Experience with contractors’ accounts
- Knowledge and experience of procurement rules and regulations
