About the role
At our manufacturing facility in Newbury, Berkshire, the Teledyne Reynolds Team design, build and test custom High Reliability Interconnect Solutions to carry signals through some of the most advanced technologies on the planet, and even beyond. Our products power aircraft cockpit technologies, avionics and radars to aid pilots on their flight path and ensure both the safety of them and their passengers. With the semiconductor market in higher demand than ever, our products aid the inspection and quality assurance of the chips and are advancing with new designs and test requirements. The Engineering and Operations teams have been directly involved in fulfilling sales orders and getting hands on with products that are now roaming the surface of Mars, orbiting the Sun and launched to land on an asteroid orbiting through space. Due to high performance over recent years, we are now looking to expand our team as a result. With a strong outlook in our Defence, Commercial and Space markets, we are focusing on new product development and products for future technology systems and are looking for a Production Engineer who has a working knowledge of production processes, tooling and test equipment in a cable harness manufacturing environment. Candidates can expect a varied and interesting role where they can develop their Engineering skills and Manufacturing process control on a product range that is unique and highly regarded within the industry.
Main responsibilities
- Responsible for the process oversight of end‑to‑end manufacture of high reliability interconnect products. This will encompass production and test, with these processes documented in specifications and procedures held within our systems.
- Ensure that all tooling, build aids and test equipment is designed and available for the orders on the backlog.
- Ensure that production capital equipment is in working order and is kept in line with industry standards.
- Raise and action change notes in a timely manner to keep product records up to date and accurate.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives laid out by the company, promote these to production staff, work with them and identify further gains.
- Be fully responsive to the manufacturing floor by ensuring that production stops are resolved in a proactive and timely manner and prevented from re‑occurring.
- Provide training to the Operations team where required on new processes and products.
- Assist the Sales, Engineering and Purchasing departments with technical information on products with respect to build and lead times as well as component selection and specification.
- Triage issues with build and test of products, working with operators and test technicians to resolve them.
- Provide support and implementation of site‑wide TPM schedules.
- Integrate with the QA department to ensure steps are followed to maintain high yield of product.
- Support the Operations manager in achieving the targeted figures in terms of OTD, PONC and revenue targets.
Qualifications
- Have a working knowledge of production processes, tooling and test equipment in a cable harness manufacturing environment.
- HNC/HND in an Electronics or Mechanical Engineering discipline is desired.
- Must be proactive and resourceful while dealing with multiple tasks in succession.
- Must have a good working knowledge of Excel, Access, MRP systems and have experience using a CAD‑based drawing package.
- Able to analyse and document issues with attention to detail, then use own initiative to solve and investigate problems approaching them with a can‑do attitude.
- Must have good communication skills and be able to interface with internal and external customers as required.
