The Role
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Senior Charge Nurse/Midwife (SCN/M) Admin Assistant to join our dynamic team supporting Maternity in the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital. This pivotal administrative role provides confidential and efficient clerical support to Senior Charge Midwives across the hospital.
As the first point of contact for SCNs, you will manage communications, coordinate diaries, and ensure smooth administrative operations. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, emotional resilience, and the ability to handle confidential data and support SCNs in delivering high‑quality care through effective administration.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern
- Location: Princess Royal Maternity Hospital
- Contract: Permanent
- Position: Full-time, 37 hours per week
- Shift pattern: Monday to Friday
Key Responsibilities
- Manage SCN diaries and coordinate meetings for effective time management.
- Handle routine correspondence and direct enquiries appropriately.
- Maintain accurate filing systems and personnel records in line with GDPR.
- Input and manage staff data using eESS and SSTS systems.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and standard documentation.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including consultants, directors, and nursing teams.
- Provide cross‑cover within the department and support audits and evaluations.
Qualifications and Experience
- HNC or SVQIII in Secretarial Studies / Business Administration or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office packages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational, communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently using initiative.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work as part of a team.
- Ability to follow work area protocols and contribute to protocol review.
- Advanced keyboard skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a professional attitude under pressure and conflicting interests.

Working Hours Update (From 1 April 2026)
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part‑time working hours will be reduced on a pro‑rated basis with a corresponding increase in hourly rate to keep overall pay unchanged.
