Salary: £22,622 – £25,353 (plus 20% shift and weekend working allowances increasing salary to approximately £30,000 – £33,500) pro rata if part time
Location: Melton 2
Hours: Full time 37 hours, part time 18.5 hours
Contract: Permanent
The Contact Officer role is one of the most important positions within Humberside Police. You will be at the heart of our Force Control Room, acting as the first point of contact for all 999 emergency and 101 non-emergency calls, making it hugely challenging but very rewarding at the same time.
Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for emergency and non‑emergency telephone calls.
- Make split‑second decisions based on information received in distressing or time‑critical situations.
- Capture, process and maintain accurate information.
- Communicate effectively with people at all levels, often in distressing, delicate or confrontational situations.
- Work within a secure or confidential environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience communicating effectively with people at all levels, often in distressing, delicate or confrontational situations.
- Experience working in a customer‑orientated environment.
- Ideal: Experience working in a secure/confidential environment.
- Minimum checkable history of at least 3 years in any capacity within Humberside Police to apply.
Shift Pattern
Initial training will consist of working office hours Monday to Friday. After training:
- Full‑time staff will work a 24‑hour ‘4 on / 4 off’ shift pattern with 20% shift allowance plus weekend working allowances.
- Part‑time staff will cover a ‘Tea Time’ shift, one of the two attached patterns in the Part Time Shift document, with corresponding shift allowance plus weekend working allowances.

The Contact Officer role carries a two‑year tenure. Progression to other roles, such as Demand Resolution Officer, is possible. During this period you will not be eligible to apply for any other vacancies advertised within Humberside Police.
