Non‑Emergency Patient Transport Services Supervisor – Warrington

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Supervisor to join our well‑established NEPTS team in Warrington. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing support to the Operations Centre, Planning and Control functions in the fulfilment of the PTS contracts.

Applicants must hold a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths, and be willing to undertake any ILM and any further training required. Evidence of qualifications will be required.

Job responsibilities

  • Ensure that operational resources, staff and vehicles operating out of the locality meet the levels as determined by the Operations Centre; report variances and recommend actions.
  • Maintain required levels of consumables and equipment to keep the operational locality viable.
  • Occasionally, on instruction of the PTS Operations Manager, assess a patient’s mobility to ensure correct mode of transport.
  • Bring to management’s attention areas of work, including patient care, where further risk assessments are required.
  • Attend meetings as requested and undertake action points where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by the Service.
  • Monitor the performance of operational staff, apply corrective action measures and recommend further action if appropriate.
  • Deal with complaints from patients, members of the public and staff when required.
  • Maintain and update personal files for new and existing staff and assist with the induction of new staff.
  • Check driving licences for all members of staff on a yearly basis.
  • Process annual leave requests for members of staff.
  • Monitor staff sickness, conduct return‑to‑work interviews and sickness counselling when necessary.
  • Ensure staff record of timekeeping and payments are correct.
  • Conduct vehicle accident panel interviews.
  • Tag and bag clinical waste when appropriate.
  • Produce monthly quality information for the PTS Operations Manager.
  • In liaison with the Operations Centre and Liaison Assistants, ensure effective deployment of locality resources.
  • Ensure adherence to the Code of Conduct, operational instructions and WMAS quality procedures.
  • Participate, either solo or as part of a crew, in the provision of care, assistance and support as appropriate to patients with impaired mobility or other physical/mental handicap.
  • Lift and carry patients (e.g., up/down stairs, in/out of homes, to/from the ambulance) using stretchers or other lifting devices.
  • Transfer patients from bed to stretcher, chair to chair or similar, both within and outside hospitals.
  • Use equipment supplied to offer treatment appropriate to the patient’s needs and skill level, including administration of oxygen and analgesics in line with WMAS protocols.
  • Ensure patients have a safe, smooth journey, complying with traffic legislation and driving with consideration for other road users.
  • Hand over patients to appropriate staff, responsible relatives, or at home, ensuring safety and comfort.
  • Ensure patient belongings, valuables and medication are looked after and handed over responsibly.
  • Transport babies in incubators under supervision of a qualified person.
  • Liaise with the PTS Operations Centre for route planning and any on‑day changes or alterations to patients’ journeys.
  • Ensure vehicles under control attend for service and MOT; action driver defective vehicle reports.
  • Maintain and update personal files for new and existing staff.

General

  • Occasional operational locality supervisor duties at other locations or secondment to the Operations Centre or PTS Headquarters.
  • Carry out Liaison Assistant duties as required on site.
  • Attain competence as a Driving Examiner for service driving tests and undertake driving assessments as required.
  • Possess or attain the NEBS Introductory Level Qualification.
  • Use own vehicle when working away from normal locality and receive mileage expenses.
  • Attend required training courses as necessary.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to lift and handle patients according to correct protocols and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of computers and information technology.
  • Knowledge of WMAS procedures, including quality.
  • Knowledge of rota management and vehicle maintenance scheduling.
  • Knowledge of PTS relationships with hospital trusts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Maths.
  • Willingness to undertake any training required for the fulfilment of the duties of this post.
  • Willingness to undertake ILM introductory course.

Experience

  • Extensive experience within an operational patient transport services post.
  • Experience of record keeping.
  • Experience of people management.
  • Experience of working in a care setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of the PTS procedures.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required, including the Independent Safeguarding Authority barred lists for working with children, adults or both. The applicant will be responsible for covering the cost of an enhanced DBS check (£55.76).
