The Service and Team

Social Work in Cornwall – The Service and Team provides a multi‑disciplinary approach across the West, Mid and East of the county. Teams include Social Workers, Targeted Youth Workers, Youth Justice Service Officers and Functional Family Therapists.

The Role

Social Worker – Gweres Tus Yowynk (GTY – Helping Young People) Service, based in St Austell. The postholder will deliver a specialist multi‑agency adolescent service aimed at keeping young people in the community where appropriate.

You will:

  • undertake all aspects of social work with young people, including assessments and caseload management;
  • provide high quality interventions to support young people at risk of care entry;
  • maintain accurate records on the database and record of practice.

To be considered you must hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England and have post‑qualifying experience working with children and young people. Strong communication, assessment and reflective practice skills are required.

Working Pattern

Full‑time, 37 hours per week, permanent position.

What you’ll need to succeed

A recognised social work qualification (degree, Dip.SW, CCSW or equivalent), registration with Social Work England, and post‑qualifying experience working with children and young people. Excellent communication and assessment skills, accurate record‑keeping, a focus on the child’s lived experience, critical thinking, positive challenge, high standards of practice, adaptability, commitment to relationship‑based social work and confidence working in a multi‑agency environment.

Additional Information

The role is based in Cornwall Council. Travel to St Austell is required; own transport essential.
