Job Description
We are seeking to appoint two Service Technicians to join the LCTE Engineering team at the Port of Tilbury.

Hours
42 hours per week (4 days on / 4 days off)
Compensation
£59,119 per year
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, including defect repairs, on a fleet of Straddle Carriers, Ship‑to‑Shore Container Cranes, and other terminal equipment.
- Work flexibly across mechanical and electrical disciplines in line with company safety, environmental, and operational standards to maximise equipment reliability and availability.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns on key terminal assets in a safe and timely manner.
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and to a high standard, supporting equipment reliability and operational performance.
- Accurately record all maintenance activities, inspections, fault findings, and repairs using the designated maintenance reporting software.
- Communicate effectively with Shift Supervisors and Engineering Management, providing timely updates on equipment condition, faults, and work progress.
- Support equipment reliability and compliance through fault investigation, statutory inspections, safety checks, and accurate maintenance records.
- Safely operate and inspect engineering plant and equipment in accordance with company procedures, including use of MEWPs, forklifts, and plant vehicles.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and cleanliness across workshops and equipment.
- Take responsibility for your own health and safety, and that of others, complying with all London Container Terminal health, safety, environmental, and security policies.
- Work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with Operations, Engineering, and Technical Specialists to support safe and efficient terminal operations.
- Demonstrate flexibility to work shift patterns and overtime as required to meet operational demands.
Qualifications
- Level 3 NVQ, ONC or HNC in an engineering related discipline.
- Completed a recognised engineering apprenticeship.
- General mechanical fitting with strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
- Full right to work in UK.
- Full driving licence, valid in UK.
Technical Skills
- General mechanical fitting and fault‑finding.
- Experience in engine diagnostics.
- Hot works, welding and fabrication.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Experience using diagnostic equipment and specialist maintenance tools.
- Preventative and condition‑based maintenance techniques.
- Safe isolation (LOTO) and permit‑to‑work procedures.
Desirable Skills (Not Essential)
- Electrical fault‑finding skills on industrial and mobile plant systems.
- Knowledge of hybrid and DC battery systems.
- Experience with PLC‑controlled equipment and industrial control systems.
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
IT & Personal Skills
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Practical, hands‑on approach with strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills.
- Good communication skills, providing clear and accurate updates to colleagues and management.
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to safe working practices and high‑quality workmanship.
