ROLE: Senior Protection & Control Engineer
HOURS: 40 hours per week, LOCATION: Olney (Hybrid)
We’re looking for a Senior Protection & Control Engineer who will lead the technical delivery and design of HV and EHV protection and control systems for renewable and utility‑scale infrastructure projects.
Role Responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day technical leadership and management of a protection and control engineering team, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation of HV and EHV substations up to 400kV.
- Lead the design, specification and configuration of complete protection and control systems, including setting project‑specific protection philosophies and ensuring compliance with Grid Code, ENA G99, DNO and TSO standards.
- Review tender and contract documentation, define protection scopes of work, and deliver high‑quality technical documentation, drawings and calculations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Act as technical authority across projects, resolving engineering challenges, coordinating multi‑disciplinary interfaces, and ensuring right‑first‑time delivery aligned with quality assurance processes.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, embed CDM 2015 principles, and promote safety and sustainability by design across all engineering activities.
Required Qualifications
- Degree, HND or HNC in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems preferred).
- Significant experience (10+ years) designing HV and EHV protection and control systems from 11kV to 132kV and ideally up to 400kV.
- Strong working knowledge of British and international standards, including Grid Code, ENA G99, and DNO/TSO requirements.
- Proven experience leading or technically managing specialist electrical design teams.
- Working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and the designer’s role under CDM.
