Case Worker

Job Type

Fixed term secondment for 12 months starting from the date of appointment. Applicants must obtain permission from their current line manager before applying.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality union member representation, collective organising, and employer engagement across core and independent health and social care providers in Cardiff & Vale.
• Support the development of effective workplace structures, promote UNISON membership, negotiate improvements in employment conditions, and ensure compliance with branch governance, employment law and data protection requirements.
• Advise and support members on workplace issues, lead recruitment and steward development, and negotiate with employers on pay, conditions, health and safety, and organisational change.
• Work closely with branch colleagues and regional staff to strengthen union presence, develop effective bargaining structures and improve employment practices.
• Deliver workplace campaigns, maintain legal and policy knowledge, coordinate steward training and mentoring, ensure accurate and GDPR‑compliant records, contribute to branch strategy and reporting, and undertake additional duties to support the objectives of the Cardiff & Vale Health Branch of UNISON.

Qualifications

• Welsh speaking ability is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome.
• Relevant experience in union representation, collective organising, or workplace advocacy.
• Knowledge of employment law, data protection and branch governance.
• Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
