As the World Energy Council enters its second century, we are now seeking a Partnership Development Director to join our dynamic, international team. Building new partnerships and capabilities will be critical to strengthening the Council’s global impact and long-term sustainability. About the role

The Partnership Development Director is responsible for identifying, developing and converting new Patrons, Centenary Partnerships and related growth opportunities that support the Council’s impact and revenue ambitions.

The successful candidate will lead new business development activities across priority markets, including North America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe, building a strong pipeline of prospective partners and converting opportunities into sustainable revenue and long‑term engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Growth, Business Development & Commercial Performance

  • Own and deliver agreed growth and revenue targets across Patron and related partnership opportunity portfolios
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline of prospective partners and opportunities across priority sectors, markets and stakeholder groups
  • Own end-to-end opportunity management from origination through conversion, maintaining strong forecasting and CRM discipline
  • Identify emerging trends, sectors and organisations with partnership potential

Partnership Development & Proposition Building

  • Develop compelling partnership propositions aligned with stakeholder interests and Council priorities
  • Match Council assets, initiatives and opportunities with prospective partners and funders
  • Shape and advance partnership opportunities through to agreement
  • Work closely with relationship owners across the Council to support successful handover and long‑term growth of new partnerships

Network Activation & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the global energy ecosystem
  • Leverage the Council’s network, Member Committees, communities, key assets and convening platforms to generate and develop opportunities
  • Represent the Council externally and support senior stakeholder engagement activity
  • Capture and communicate stakeholder signals, market intelligence and emerging opportunities from across the Council ecosystem
  • Work across teams to develop opportunities and maximise overall value to the Council
  • Support growth of overall relationship value across the Council portfolio
  • Refer and develop opportunities across teams where this creates greater organisational value
  • Take an enterprise‑wide view of growth, supporting opportunities that strengthen the Council’s overall impact, relationships and long‑term sustainability

  • Achievement of agreed revenue and growth targets

  • Strong stakeholder relationships across priority organisations and markets

About you

  • Proven track record in business development, partnership acquisition, commercial growth or strategic sales roles
  • Demonstrated success securing high‑value, multi‑year partnerships and commercial relationships
  • Strong commercial acumen and experience delivering growth and revenue targets
  • Proven ability to identify, originate and convert partnership opportunities into sustainable revenue
  • Strong prospecting, opportunity development and relationship‑building skills
  • Experience managing complex sales cycles and senior stakeholder environments
  • Strong pipeline management, forecasting and CRM discipline
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills
  • International outlook and ability to work across cultures and stakeholder groups
  • Ability to travel internationally as required
  • Experience in the energy sector or adjacent sectors
  • Experience working with international networks, membership organisations or convening platforms
  • Understanding of the energy ecosystem and stakeholder landscape across North America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe
  • Existing networks and relationships across one or more of these markets
  • Experience securing sponsorships, partnerships or institutional funding arrangements
  • Additional language capability
