Overview

The Product Analytics and Experimentation team sits within the Data & Analytics directorate in the Technology department. Our mission is to deliver insightful and actionable data through reporting, analysis, and optimisation, focusing on best-practice processes and enabling data-driven decision making across all product teams. The Groceries, Clubcard websites and apps, Tesco till, Colleague Apps and the newly launched Clubcard Plus propositions are amongst the digital products supported by our team. While specific responsibilities will depend on changing business needs, the following provides an overview of the role’s key responsibilities and measures.

Responsibilities

  • Owning relationships with product managers and UX leads, helping define objectives and key results, setting targets, analysing product releases, defining and validating hypotheses, and making product recommendations.
  • Executing end-to-end analysis: gathering and shaping requirements; defining success metrics; identifying and validating data sources and methods of analysis; delivering insights and liaising with clients and partners to ensure the best recommendations are identified and delivered.
  • Performing deep-dive analysis into key business areas.
  • Supporting, analysing and visualising data to understand optimisation areas and prioritise initiatives.
  • Demonstrating strong data-based decision-making skills, especially when multiple trade-offs are involved and fast decision-making is required.
  • Using data from multiple sources to identify trends, expose new opportunities, and answer business questions.
  • Representing the team confidently and competently when needed.
  • Understanding the commercial impact of recommendations and insights.
  • Identifying unstructured problems and articulating opportunities to form new analytics project ideas.
  • Providing greater context to analyses by incorporating external data for comparison (industry benchmarks).
  • Working effectively with multi-disciplinary teams and contributing to all phases of the product development lifecycle.
  • Articulating complex concepts to a diverse audience through excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Influencing without authority.

Qualifications

  • Experience in digital analytics positions.
  • University degree of 2:1 or higher in a quantitative discipline or relevant experience.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Proficiency with digital analytics tools.
  • Experience using big data, business intelligence and data visualisation tools, ideally Hadoop and Tableau.
  • Advanced data collection from a range of sources.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Advanced ETL (cleansing, etc.) experience.
  • Conceptual thinking across customer and colleague touch points.
