Assistant Director for Recreation and Culture (temporary, part time maternity cover)

We are seeking an exceptional Assistant Director – Recreation & Culture to lead a diverse portfolio of services that make a real difference to residents’ lives. This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a senior leadership role and drive innovation, performance and partnership working across recreation, leisure and cultural services.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Council’s vision for recreation and culture, reporting to the Strategic Director for Culture and Environment.
• Manage and develop a wide-ranging service area including: Parks, open spaces and grounds maintenance; Leisure services and contract management; Culture, museums and arts; Events and markets; Cemeteries and health-related initiatives.

Key Qualifications

• Significant senior management experience in a relevant service area and a strong track record of delivering change, performance improvement and results.
• Experience of working with elected members and key stakeholders, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A relevant professional qualification (degree level or equivalent) and evidence of continuing professional development.
