Role Overview
This is a critical role within the Central Freedom of Information Team, supporting the department in meeting its statutory obligations under the Freedom of Information Act and related legislation. The post holder will manage a portfolio of Freedom of Information casework, ensuring responses are accurate, timely and legally compliant.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate complex Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
- Provide advice to business areas
- Manage risks and escalations
- Contribute to performance reporting
- Support continuous improvement across the FOI operation
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Security clearance at SC level, or the ability to obtain it
- Demonstrable experience of effective stakeholder engagement beyond your own team, and comfort engaging with senior leaders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to assimilate complex information from a range of sources and turn it into actionable advice, policy, guidance or plans
- Comfort managing multiple and sometimes competing priorities to ensure the right work gets done
- Experience of managing casework, deadlines and competing priorities
- Confidence engaging with stakeholders at all levels
- Ability to apply legislation, guidance and policy with sound judgement
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge or understanding of the Freedom of Information Act
- Experience of working on Freedom of Information requests

Salary and Benefits
Salary: £38,772 per annum. Department for Work and Pensions contributes £11,232 towards your membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
