Senior Planner

Opportunity for an experienced Senior Planner to lead planning and programming across tender, pre‑construction and construction phases for civil engineering projects. The role involves developing robust project programmes, monitoring critical path activities, and delivering high‑quality planning solutions to support project success.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and programming function on selected projects during all project stages.
• Develop, maintain, and administer detailed project programmes, methodologies, planning reports and presentations.
• Analyse and monitor critical path activities, identifying risks, constraints and opportunities affecting programme delivery.
• Collaborate with project teams and supply‑chain partners to define planning scope, resource requirements and contractual obligations.
• Apply resource planning and levelling techniques to optimise programme performance.
• Present programme and sequencing information to internal and external stakeholders at detailed and summary levels.
• Ensure compliance with contractual requirements for programme submission, updates and reporting.
• Produce regular programme updates, progress reports and mitigation recommendations.
• Coordinate with statutory authorities, utility providers, planning authorities and consultants to integrate external requirements into programmes.
• Monitor project progress, proactively identify and communicate issues, and raise escalations when necessary.
• Provide planning‑related advice throughout the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to risk and opportunity management, focusing on programme performance and delivery.
• Maintain a commercial focus, ensuring planning activities add value to project outcomes.
• Adhere to company policies, procedures and best‑practice standards.

Key Requirements

• Relevant construction industry experience in planning, project controls, engineering or project delivery.
• Recognised qualification in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Prior Senior Planner or Planner experience on projects within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, groundworks or structures.
• Operational site experience as a Site Engineer, Site Agent or similar is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of planning, programming and progress monitoring techniques.
• Experience developing and managing project programmes from tender to construction completion.
• Knowledge of risk and opportunity management as it relates to planning and programme delivery.
• Understanding of delay analysis, change management and entitlement principles.
• Familiarity with construction methodologies, plant, equipment and labour resource requirements.
• Strong grasp of tender documentation, contract documents, specifications and project controls.
• In‑depth knowledge of JCT and NEC contracts and their planning requirements.
• Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 and Asta Powerproject.
