Relief Residential Care Officer (CDC)

Based at: Various Locations, Doncaster

Salary: Grade 7, £14.82 per hour (pay award pending)

Closing date: 1st July 2026

Contract type: Casual

Hours: Variable, working as and when required

Responsibilities

  • Provide warm, caring, and enabling support to look‑after children and young people across a range of homes.
  • Work under the supervision of the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, and Senior Residential Care Officers to deliver care plans and promote the welfare of residents.
  • Support children with complex behaviours—including emotional and behavioural difficulties—and facilitate their therapeutic and educational development.
  • Participate in shift rosters, including evenings, nights, weekends, bank holidays and sleep‑in duties, and perform duties according to the rota requirements.
  • Advocate for children, demonstrating a “good parent” role and adhering to safeguarding policies.
  • Attend and complete required training, including Level 3 TQUK Diploma in Residential Childcare within two years, and any additional training needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience or demonstrable transferable skills working with children or young people with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles and the ability to implement them.
  • Capacity to work flexibly across a rota, including unsocial hours and sleep‑in shifts.
  • For candidates without Level 2 in Maths and English, a commitment to achieving these qualifications as part of training.
  • Valid Level 1 or 2 DBS; enhanced DBS disclosure is mandatory.

Location

  • Homes located throughout Doncaster with good transport links.
  • Rotas include mornings (7am‑3pm) and Afters (2pm‑10pm), with sleep‑in shifts (2pm‑11pm and 7am‑2pm next morning).
  • Typical rota: 4 weeks, 2 weekends, 2 off; 9 days off per 4‑week rota.
