Temporary Maintenance Technician
Hourly pay rate: £23 (incl shift)Shift Pattern: 2 shifts – Monday to Friday, 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pmLocation: Wallsend
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance to keep machinery operating efficiently.
- Assist with process setup and participate in SMED activities to reduce downtime.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure smooth operations and equipment availability.
- Support and actively engage in continuous improvement initiatives, promoting best operational practices.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant legislation (Health & Safety, Quality, Environment, HSE, COSHH, ISO 14001, etc.).
- Coordinate audits, review SOPs, and promote best practices in health, safety, and quality.
- Contribute to project work as required and support other sites when needed.
Skills & Competencies
- Qualifications: City & Guilds or equivalent in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
- Ability to set up and adjust machines and processes using SMED.
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge, including basic PLC programming and fault‑finding skills.
- Experience in assembling, dismantling, repairing, and inspecting metal parts, tools, and sub‑assemblies.
- Practical experience with continuous improvement tools and working effectively within small manufacturing teams.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance schedules and routine machine checks.
- Strong understanding of HSE and quality policies with practical application.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record in implementing continuous improvement and best practice maintenance.
- Ongoing temporary contract with strong potential for a permanent contract to be offered to the right candidate.
