Alarm Technician – Control Room – Exeter – Full‑time – Annual salary: £28,956 (£34,747 including shift allowance) – Benefits included.
Permanent, full‑time position based in Exeter. Work a 24/7 shift pattern, 365 days a year, six days on and four days off: Morning 06:00–14:30, Afternoon 14:00–22:30, Night 22:00–06:30.
About the role
You will be working within a team to provide information and support to internal and external stakeholders and, ultimately, customers, through professional and efficient service. This includes receiving, interrogating, actioning and accepting SCADA system alarms and other notifications 24/7 to support business‑critical processes and performance standards. You will work closely with stakeholders from field Hub sites and other Operational Teams, assisting Control Centre staff and operating commercial contracts to meet KPIs and SLAs.
What you’ll be doing
- Alarm & Incident Management: Triaging alarms in and out of hours, prioritising P1 incidents, storm events and pollution risks. Investigating alarms using system data (including SAM), suppressing where appropriate, operating wet weather controls, maintaining accurate audit notes.
- Emergency & Escalation Handling: Responding immediately to emergency lines, emergency services, welfare alerts, panic alarms and Environment Agency reports following defined escalation procedures.
- Operational Support & Administration: Managing event logs, handover reports, emergency work orders, shutdown notifications, standby rotas, password resets, fault reporting and system checks.
- Communications & Coordination: Monitoring team mailboxes, relaying press office and Beach Live notifications, cascading flood warnings, liaising with internal teams, partners and managers as required.
- Customer & Stakeholder Support: Logging and actioning urgent out‑of‑hours customer contacts via CRM and supporting customer contact operations when needed.
- Health, Safety & Security: Monitoring lone worker systems, CCTV, building and hatch alarms, welfare timers and HomeSafe processes to ensure staff safety at all times.

- Experience of working in a high volume work atmosphere.
- Experience of working in an office‑type environment.
- Good general standard of education with a minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C or equivalent in English and Maths.
