Job overview

Experienced Radiographer or Technologist sought for a fixed term 10-month maternity cover in the Nuclear Medicine department at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. The role involves administering radiopharmaceuticals and performing Nuclear Medicine scans, including PET‑CT, within a high‑quality, state‑of‑the‑art service supported by senior technologists, consultants and dedicated physics and admin staff.

Main duties

  • Assess patient referrals, manage care plans, and safely prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Perform Nuclear Medicine scans, including PET‑CT, and conduct image processing to produce results to the highest technical standards.
  • Supervise technologists/radiographers and support staff as required.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Nuclear Medicine Technologist, PET‑CT Superintendent, and lead superintendent to provide an efficient and effective service.
  • Work within regulatory frameworks, local rules, and standard operating procedures to ensure a safe working environment in line with health and safety legislation.
  • Cover all Nuclear Medicine departments, including weekend and evening duties as required.

Detailed job responsibilities

Perform routine scanning, administration of radiopharmaceuticals, patient care and other tasks set by the Chief Technologist, PET‑CT Superintendent, and senior technologists.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Registered with HCPC (Health & Care Professionals Council) or RCT.

Experience

  • Understanding of the risks associated with radioactive sources (open and sealed) and CT in patients and staff.
  • Knowledge of general policies and procedures of a Nuclear Medicine department.
  • Previous experience of student mentorship.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting.
