Consultant Radiologist with Interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake programmed activities in MSK imaging. Opportunities for development of the existing service exist and will be supported where they reflect and support the needs of the local population and the development plans of the trust
  • To support the provision of imaging in rheumatology, pain and spinal imaging
  • To support emergency imaging across UHL
  • Supervise junior medical staff
  • To review MSK & Trauma imaging performed as an emergency within and out of hours
  • To lead and take part in multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • To contribute to the training of the Specialist Registrars on the East Midland Deanery (South) radiology training scheme
  • To supervise and train skill‑mix radiographers, sonographers and non‑medical staff in their present and anticipated roles
  • To support and participate in audit, research, teaching and administration
  • To take part in the diagnostic on-call rota within UHL and assist in the provision of weekend radiological support for the Imaging service
  • To participate in the provision of sarcoma services in the region including participation in the sarcoma MDT and providing an US/US‑guided biopsy service
  • Ability to perform CT guided intervention (bone biopsy) is desirable

Training & Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Fully accredited for higher Specialist Training or will be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • Membership of relevant specialist societies or associations
  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, MD or equivalent

Experience

  • Fully trained in general radiology with specialist training in MSK imaging
  • Clinical knowledge and expertise: appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems; demonstrates clear logical thinking/analytical approach; understands evidence based practice
  • Willingness to develop skills and experience in areas of interest
  • Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a specialty interest in MSK imaging

Communication / Relationship

  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues
  • Capacity to take others’ perspectives and treat others with understanding
  • Evidence of ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with patients
  • Evidence of ability to work within teams and contribute to MDT discussions
  • Evidence of ability to communicate with all members of referring services
  • Leadership skills
  • Understanding of the challenges in providing emergency imaging services
  • Evidence of ability to enhance MSK radiology services at UHL

Planning & Organisation Skills

  • Willingness to work as a member of the team and to share administrative responsibilities
  • Able to work in multidisciplinary teams and supervise juniors
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues
  • Capacity to manage / prioritise time and information effectively
  • Awareness of service development issues
  • Evidence of management and administration experience
  • Management training on an accredited course
  • Understanding of wider health agenda and modern NHS

  • Evidence of recent research and development activity
  • Publications in nationally and internationally recognised peer‑reviewed journals on subjects relevant to the specialty
