Senior Embedded Software Engineer
Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days per week in the London office)
Compensation: £65,000 – £75,000 per year
You will be at the heart of Pod’s next‑generation EV charging technology, designing, building, and testing embedded software for scalable hardware platforms. The role involves close collaboration with hardware and electronics teams to deliver robust, high‑quality solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver embedded software, ensuring reliability, performance and quality.
- Own features end‑to‑end, from scoping to delivery across new and existing products.
- Collaborate with the electronics team to support new designs and diagnose hardware‑related issues.
- Integrate modern connectivity and IoT technologies, including Thread, Matter, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and cellular IoT.
- Contribute to strong engineering practices such as technical design documentation, version control and CI/CD.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, coaching and active participation in team planning.
- Shape and evolve the overall software architecture for scalability and maintainability.
- Investigate complex issues across the hardware and software stack to identify root causes and implement long‑term fixes.
- Support the full product lifecycle, from early development to release and iteration.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of embedded software engineering experience, preferably in consumer IoT or connected devices.
- Strong fundamentals in modern development practices – system design, version control and CI/CD pipelines.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Organised, detail‑oriented, and able to deliver high‑quality work in a structured manner.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- Positive, proactive mindset with energy, ownership and a collaborative approach to problem solving.
Desirable Skills
- Embedded Linux development (Yocto, device tree, system‑level components).
- Proficiency in C, C++ or Rust for low‑level systems programming.
- Experience with boards, SDKs, toolchains, debugging environments and platform bring‑up.
- Knowledge of EV standards and protocols such as IEC 61851, ISO 15118 and OCPP.
- Experience building CI systems, including hardware‑in‑the‑loop and software testing.
- Familiarity with IoT and cybersecurity standards such as EN 303 645 and EN 18031.
