Job overview
Lead the Sexual Health and Contraception (SHAC) team in Brighton, overseeing registered and unregistered nurse practice education, training delivery, and specialist care provision within the specialty.
Responsibilities
- Motivate and encourage harmonious teamwork.
- Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and the multidisciplinary team, both verbally and in writing.
- Develop and lead partnerships with other disciplines and voluntary agencies to promote reproductive and sexual health.
- Lead and attend staff meetings and working parties, contributing to decision‑making processes.
- Promote up‑to‑date knowledge through participation in educational events and policy updates.
- Plan, implement and evaluate health promotion programmes; support national and local targets.
- Participate in clinical audit, submit statistical returns and contribute to service development.
- Develop referral pathways with multi‑agency partners.
- Manage change within clinical and non‑clinical teams, including workforce planning and training needs.
- Implement strategies and interventions to achieve targets within the Teenage Pregnancy Strategy, Sexual Health Strategy, NICE guidance and Children’s NSF.
Qualifications
- First‑level Registered Nurse.
- Post‑graduate experience and recognised qualifications within contraception (DFSRH), GUM, HIV or equivalent at Band 6 level.
- Current NMC registration.
- Teaching and Assessing qualification.
- Ability to run nurse‑only clinics.
- Competent in utilisation of contraception knowledge and skills.
- Experience working autonomously within policies, including independent nurse prescriber or patient group directives.
- Adaptive to unpredictable workload.
- BSc in Nursing; MSc or working towards.
- Non‑medical prescriber qualification.

- Trained educator; able to deliver principles and programme content.
