Job Description:

Maple Hayes Hall School is a Section 41 Independent Special School for Specific Learning Difficulties, providing an exceptional educational experience for pupils aged 7‑17 with Dyslexia.

Assistant Teacher Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Assistant Teacher to join our team. In this unique role, you will work closely with our class teachers to contribute to the management of pupil behaviour, maintain order, and create an engaging learning environment. Your primary focus will be on supporting our students with Specific Learning Difficulties, helping them develop the skills and resilience to participate and work within a classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the class teacher to manage pupil behaviour and maintain a positive, productive learning environment.
  • Undertake the supervision of pupils before school, during breaks, and in extracurricular activities.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of differentiated learning activities, monitoring and adapting them as needed.
  • Provide targeted support and interventions to help students with Dyslexia and associated difficulties.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, and other professionals to support student learning and progress.
  • Promote the social and emotional development of all pupils.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of EHCP targets and interventions.
  • Accompany students on educational visits, including residential trips.
  • Participate in school‑based meetings and undertake relevant training.

Qualifications And Experience

Essential

  • GCSE (or equivalent) level C or above in English or Maths.
  • National Qualification Framework Level 3 or equivalent vocational qualification (or higher or working towards).
  • Experience working with a range of pupils, including those with SEN.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development, learning, and safeguarding procedures.

Desirable

  • Training in First Aid.
  • Ability to drive a minibus.
  • Working knowledge of the SEN code of practice.
  • Experience with interventions such as Assessment for Learning.
  • Level 2 (or higher) safeguarding training.

Personal Qualities

  • Ability to take on board new and different approaches for helping pupils with Dyslexia.
  • Calm and friendly manner, with enthusiasm and adaptability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to engage in professional development activities.
  • Commitment to promoting the independence and participation of all students.

Salary And Benefits

£24,000 – £26,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus bonuses.
