We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, passionate, innovative and progressive Consultant to join our Acute Medical Consultant team in the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The Acute Medicine department is a national centre for POCUS training and accreditation. The appointee will cover all areas of Acute Internal Medicine which include the Acute Medical Unit, Short Stay Unit, Medical SDEC, Virtual Clinics and our Acute Hospital At Home service – EPICENTRE. The role involves leading, teaching, innovating and developing our acute medicine services, with opportunities to be involved in research.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Collaborate and work to maintain Acute Medicine services in line with strategic requirements.
- Provide routine and emergency Acute Medical services to the Trust, operating a system of mutual out‑of‑hours cover, and cover for leave.
- Provide consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialties within the Trust.
- Develop a special interest that complements those of the existing Consultants in Acute Medicine and in accordance with the priorities of the Trust.
- Develop appropriate services required to fulfil clinical needs, within available resources.
- Take responsibility for the educational supervision, education, training and appraisal of resident doctors (of all grades including registrars), medical students and other AHPs.
- Participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities in the Trust.
Person specification
Qualifications:
- Entry on the Specialist Register in Acute Internal Medicine and/or General Internal Medicine (or CCT expected within 6 months from the date of interview)
Clinical Experience:
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining CCT in Acute Medicine
- Special interest that complements the existing consultants
Management and Administrative Experience:
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
Clinical Effectiveness
- Experience of conducting clinical audit
Teaching and Training experience:
- Ability to teach clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines.
- Formal training in teaching
Research, Innovation and Service Improvement Experience:
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
- Knowledge and experience of the application of information technology to management of flow of patients
- Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last five years.
- Evidence of having undertaken original research
Other Requirements:
- Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practise.
- Knowledge and experience of the application of information technology to management of flow of patients
