Responsibilities
- To provide a nursing service within infection prevention and control by receiving direct referrals.
- To use advanced clinical judgement to plan, implement and evaluate care for patients with complex physical and psychological problems, including interpretation of microbiology and virology results as authorised on the results system, referring to the clinical lead when necessary.
- To manage an agreed caseload under the supervision of the matron infection prevention and control, using in-depth knowledge of the patient/client group.
- To provide essential advisory and psychological care to patients referred to the service and nursing service in general.
- To document all care given using the Trust guidelines.
- To act as an expert role model in nursing care to other nurses within the trust and IC team and assist in the management and supervision of junior team members.
- To contribute to the development of nursing guidelines/protocols at a local/network level, including infection prevention and control policies.
- In conjunction with the infection prevention and control team, identify possible risks of infection and investigate all outbreaks of infection.
- To participate in the audit and monitoring of the general hospital environment, including advice on infection prevention and control aspects of procurement of equipment, fixtures and fittings and service changes or developments.
Qualifications
- Band 7 infection prevention and control nurse.
- Working towards level 3 Infection prevention and control modules, studying and/or completed a full BSc in Infection Prevention and Control.
- Minimum two years’ experience in infection prevention and control working as band 6 or above.
- Recognised teaching qualification with proven leadership and management qualities.
