The School of Engineering is actively seeking a dedicated professional to join as the Director of Student Projects, filling a permanent teaching‑focussed Assistant or Associate Professor position. This position represents a unique opportunity to shape the academic landscape by fostering a culture of innovation and skills development through hands‑on projects.
The Director will lead and manage a portfolio of project modules across our undergraduate and postgraduate taught degree programmes. Working closely with the Head of Education, Directors of Studies and other colleagues, the postholder will coordinate the effective delivery of project modules, ensuring that student projects are aligned with programme learning outcomes, professional accreditation requirements and current developments in engineering practice. This will involve supporting students from project allocation and induction through to supervision, assessment and completion.
A key part of the role will be to develop and maintain relationships with industry, professional organisations and other external partners, creating relevant project opportunities that allow students to apply their academic knowledge to complex engineering problems. Through the effective management and continued development of student projects, the post holder will help students build practical, professional and employability skills, which contributes to the School’s reputation for producing graduates with strong academic knowledge and practical engineering expertise.
With a growing student body (currently approximately 1600), the Director will play a pivotal role in maintaining and enhancing the overall quality of our educational provision and student experience through project‑based learning.
This post carries a high administrative load and the Director will be expected to contribute to module teaching on the School’s programmes, plus engage with School activities that may involve evening and weekend work.
About You
We seek an individual committed to advancing students’ skills development through practical applications, ensuring our graduates are well‑equipped for success in a dynamic professional landscape.
You will have a PhD or equivalent doctoral‑level qualification or substantial relevant professional experience in a field directly relevant to the post. A proven track record in delivering high‑quality undergraduate teaching, with a focus on innovation and the incorporation of industry‑relevant projects into the curriculum, is essential. You will have a good understanding of national policy relating to teaching in higher education, particularly teaching excellence and the mechanisms in place to assess such excellence across institutions. This must include a strong understanding of assessment and curriculum design in the context of undergraduate and taught postgraduate Engineering courses.
You must have experience of leading/supervising a variety of projects in a professional and/or academic context, and proven experience in project management.
You must be a collegiate colleague who uses their excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills to contribute to the School community and work collaboratively with internal and external colleagues and stakeholders.
If relevant, you must be willing to complete Warwick’s Academic and Professional Pathway for Teaching Excellence (APP TE) and/or seek (further) HEA accreditation when in post.

About the Department
The School of Engineering is a multidisciplinary department that aspires to conduct research to internationally leading standards. The School has recently established Research Clusters, launched in the Summer of 2025.
The School of Engineering leads various undergraduate and taught Masters courses and has > 1,600 students on taught courses with an annual Year 1 undergraduate intake of c. 480 students. Students on our undergraduate programmes follow a common programme of study in Year 1. After this, most students choose to join specialised courses.
The role of Director of Student Projects was newly introduced approximately two years ago, and provides an opportunity for the successful applicant to shape the School’s portfolio of student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
