Our Cardiff Streets team is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the design and delivery of traffic engineering, Active Travel, and urban realm projects across South Wales and beyond, shaping safer, greener, and more inclusive transport networks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of traffic engineering, Active Travel, and urban realm schemes from concept through to detailed design and implementation.
  • Manage technical outputs, mentor junior staff, and ensure the successful delivery of high‑quality, sustainable transport solutions.
  • Take a leading role in development of Active Travel and traffic engineering schemes; ensure work meets project briefs, design standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and quality standards; report progress and risks to the Principal Engineer or Project Manager.
  • Collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams on projects for organisations such as Transport for Wales, Cardiff Council, Swansea Council, Newport City Council, and regional frameworks (e.g., SWTRA, South West & Mid Wales Regional CES, SEWTAPS).

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in scoping, preliminary, and detailed design of Active Travel and traffic engineering schemes.
  • Expertise in infrastructure for walking, cycling, bus priority, and traffic calming.
  • Strong knowledge of drainage, junctions, and carriageway improvements; familiarity with design standards including TSRGD, Manual for Streets, DMRB, and the Traffic Signs Manual.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
