Job Description:

Role Overview

This post is based on the Infectious Diseases ward at St Mary’s Hospital and is a six-month appointment, commencing in August 2026. The position is designed for doctors with SHO-level experience who are seeking to develop their careers in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, or Virology.

Responsibilities

  • Support infectious diseases ward cover in collaboration with IMT 1, including cross-cover during annual or study leave.
  • Provide high-quality care to inpatients and outpatients, actively participate in clinical activities such as ward rounds, clinics, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Contribute to departmental initiatives including teaching, audit, quality improvement, and academic seminars.
  • Work under the supervision of the consultant of the month and alongside registrars and an IMT1 SHO.
  • Participate in all aspects of clinical care, including ward rounds, ward work, weekly infectious diseases clinics, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings such as TB, ID‑Microbiology, and Radiology MDTs.
  • Maintain clear documentation and effective communication within the MDT.

Qualifications

Doctors with SHO-level experience. Seeking to develop a career in Infectious Diseases, Microbiology, or Virology.
