Assistant Director of Compliance and Building Safety

Location: National (Hybrid with national remit, contracted to nearest office: Bradford/Burnley/Camberley/Peterborough/Stockton)

Salary: Circa £90k per annum

Permanent, 35 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Lead the approach to asset compliance and building safety, covering gas, electrical, fire, asbestos, legionella, lifts, and more
  • Ensure 100% compliance through robust systems, data (the “golden thread”), and performance monitoring
  • Drive a zero-tolerance culture for health and safety risks
  • Oversee procurement and contract management, ensuring strong performance and value for money
  • Act as a key contact with the Building Safety Regulator
  • Develop KPIs and early warning indicators to manage and improve performance
  • Lead high-performing teams and supply chains, embedding a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
  • Manage budgets and ensure efficient, cost-effective delivery
  • Support delivery of the Asset Management Strategy and long-term investment plans

Qualifications

  • CIH Level 5 (or equivalent with CIH top-ups), or willingness to work towards
  • Extensive experience in construction or a related field, with a strong track record of managing compliance and safety across large property portfolios
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop high-performing teams
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills
  • In‑depth knowledge of compliance and health & safety regulations
  • Demonstrated experience managing substantial budgets and delivering value through effective procurement
  • Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and communication skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations and build effective stakeholder relationships
  • Strong IT literacy, including MS Office and asset management systems
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
