Job Description:

About iCOMAT

iCOMAT is an advanced manufacturing company that invented Rapid Tow Shearing (RTS) – a proven technology for producing defect‑free curved‑fiber composite parts at industrial scale. We deliver the lightest structures for aerospace, automotive, defense, and space, with a rate and cost efficiency that exceeds existing composite production processes.

Role Summary

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our existing Software Engineering team and support the development of our in‑house engineering software tools, including Python/C++ wrappers and automation interfaces for industrial CAD, CAE and CAM platforms.

Responsibilities

From day one you will develop novel approaches to complex design and manufacturing problems that sit at the cutting edge of industrial‑scale composite manufacturing.

As a member of iCOMAT’s in‑house software engineering team, you will contribute to the development of software that supports structures and manufacturing engineers with the design, optimisation and manufacturing of high‑performance composite components.

The core focus of this role is to support the development of iCOMAT’s in‑house Computer Aided Manufacturing software and to build and maintain the integration layer between iCOMAT’s software tools and industrial CAD/CAE/CAM systems, automating parts of the composite design workflow and improving feedback between manufacturing and design disciplines.

In addition to writing software code, you will participate across the software development life cycle – from co‑designing requirements with end users, to validating MVPs, and executing the build, test and release of production‑standard software.

What You’ll Need

Essential Skills

  • Strong Python development experience (5+ years)
  • Working knowledge of C++ or C# programming (C++ preferred)
  • Familiarity with scientific programming and common Python libraries such as NumPy and SciPy
  • Ability to write software tools that run across Windows and Linux end‑user machines
  • 5+ years of demonstrable industry experience developing robust engineering, manufacturing or scientific software used by technical end users outside of academic contexts
  • Strong first‑degree or Masters/PhD in computer science or a STEM‑related subject

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with CATIA V5 or similar industrial CAD platforms
  • Experience with robotic programming concepts and robot kinematics
  • Experience building Python/C++ wrappers, SDK integrations or automation layers around third‑party engineering tools
  • Direct experience with DevOps workflows, including CI/CD, build automation, packaging and release management
  • Experience with web application development
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices such as test‑driven development, automated testing, code review and containerisation
  • Comfortable using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar developer assistants
  • Experience developing software for highly regulated and/or export‑controlled environments
  • Experience developing software to comply with common information management and cybersecurity certifications (e.g. ISO 27001, SOC 2)
  • Previous start‑up or scale‑up experience advantageous

Values

  • Discipline over excuses. We commit, follow through and hold ourselves and each other to the highest standard, especially when pressure is on.
  • Push the edge. iCOMAT refuses to accept that curved fibre cannot be manufactured at scale – we innovate where others hesitate.
  • Aligned and accountable. Everyone owns their lane, communicates openly and delivers without being chased – no silos, no ambiguity.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with a comprehensive benefits package, including private healthcare and pension scheme.
  • Stock options to give employees a stake in the company’s success.
  • Career growth opportunities in the rapidly advancing field of composite materials.
  • Innovation‑focused culture, inclusive and forward‑thinking work environment. Recognised by Bloomberg as a UK Startup to Watch – iCOMAT values diversity and encourages all applicants regardless of background.
  • Global impact – opportunity to work with influential companies worldwide in automotive, aerospace and space industries.
