Overview
Control Software Engineer required to deliver machine control system solutions for bespoke automation and robotic systems. The role involves writing and developing software, PLC and HMI coding for automation projects, electrical design and creation of machine control system solutions, and delivering control and safety systems compliant with the Machinery Directive and relevant standards. Based near Leicester, the position involves integration of robots (including SCARA, Delta and 6‑axis), and liaising with customers, suppliers and team members. The successful candidate will be comfortable working autonomously or as part of a team, delivering projects within budgetary and timescale constraints.
Responsibilities
- Write and develop software, PLC and HMI coding for automation projects.
- Provide electrical design and create machine control system solutions for special purpose automated machinery.
- Deliver control and safety systems compliant with the Machinery Directive and applicable standards; design electrical systems, select components and generate circuit diagrams as required.
- Integrate robots (including SCARA, Delta and 6‑axis) and liaise with customers, suppliers and team members.
- Work autonomously or as part of a project team to deliver on time and within budget.
- Manage projects from design through development and commissioning of machine control and safety systems.
- Create associated electrical documentation (circuit diagrams, cable schedules, installation documents, BOMs).
- Ensure compliance with European and international safety standards and correct selection and procurement of components.
Qualifications
- Typically 5+ years of experience in software design and PLC coding; experience with Omron, Siemens and Allen Bradley equipment is advantageous.
- Extensive experience in electrical design for machine automation using ePlan.
- Knowledge of national and international electrical standards for machine design and machine safety systems; understanding to CE mark machine systems.
- Degree or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering or a closely related control system discipline.
- Flexible approach to travel to customer sites across the UK if required.

Salary up to cGBP55k depending on experience, plus benefits. East Midlands location; commutable from Nottingham, Leicester and Coventry.
