Senior Electrical Project Engineer

Inchinnan, Glasgow – Permanent position

About the Role

Provide engineering design solutions and through life engineering support to the JFD product range. Workload varies from new product design to meet client or internal specifications, to supporting existing client requests to upgrade or change equipment in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering design input to new systems and products and support the existing product range by assessing technical queries.
  • Liaise with internal JFD departments such as sales, supply chain and production to ensure the best technical solution is provided in all instances.
  • Create part numbers and bills of materials, and source suitable components and materials when required.
  • Produce engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification and reports, and review detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation.
  • Ensure engineering solutions are delivered on time, on budget, and comply with engineering and company standards, including internal and external standards and regulations.
  • Serve as the discipline technical approver of drawings and documentation generated within the JFD engineering team.
  • Promote engagement to achieve a resilient, diverse, high‑performing team.
  • When applicable, line‑manage a small team on performance, development, allocation/delegation of work, and compliance with internal and external standards and regulations; develop and mentor team through competence frameworks, training, development plans and performance appraisals.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Electrical and electronics design skills.
  • Experience generating design calculations.
  • Programming experience with Structured Text (ST) and other IEC languages on the CODESYS platform.
  • Competency in engineering design software tools/CAD packages.
  • Knowledge of design standards and IEC 61508 applied to programmable systems.
  • Experience with product design, particularly DC systems.
  • Selection of cables, connectors, and penetrators.
  • Design and commissioning of HV and LV electrical systems with associated calculations.
  • Design of power distribution systems.
  • Specification, selection, and management of traction battery systems up to 150 kWh capacity.
  • Good knowledge of electrical systems design for EMC compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience in an electrical engineer or product engineer role.
  • Experience with a Product Lifecycle Management system for generating and storing engineering packages.
  • Electrical or Electronics Engineering degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Familiarity with marine/defence standards and Classification Society rules (LR, DNV, DEFSTAN, etc.).
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently.
  • Methodical, thorough documentation practices.
  • Adaptability to changing scope or client demands.
  • Ownership, accountability, and drive to complete tasks.
  • Commitment to deliver high‑quality output within tight deadlines and cost‑efficient solutions.

Location and Travel

Based in Inchinnan, Glasgow with occasional travel required as projects dictate.
