Occupational Therapy Team Lead – Orthopaedics

We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to lead and develop the orthopaedics service at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust. The role focuses on acute orthopaedic care, with emphasis on hip fracture and elective orthopaedic pathways, and includes leading a team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists within the Adult Therapies Department.
Main duties of the job
Demonstrable leadership experience at band 6 or equivalent is required. The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and demonstrated knowledge and experience in this specialty, enabling autonomous practice at a high level and the ability to provide highly specialist input within the team.
Supervision of band 6 and band 5 Occupational Therapists as well as Physiotherapists will be a key aspect of this role. Clinical expertise will be nurtured and developed with specialty training as required. The post holder will strive to improve the patient experience while ensuring staff safety and wellbeing through service improvement projects.
Working hours are spread from Monday to Sunday as part of our 7-day service, enabling a varied and flexible working week. Ongoing training opportunities are provided both in-house and externally as part of career development.

Person Specification
Qualifications and training
- Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registration
- Relevant examples of CPD within the past 12 months
- Membership of the RCOT
- Member of a special interest group
Knowledge & experience
- Advanced knowledge of a broad range of conditions in the specialist area, including bracing, single-handed care, and post-surgery complex delirium
- Experience of working as part of an Occupational Therapy team and/or multi-disciplinary team within an orthopaedic setting
- Involvement in relevant audit, research and quality improvement activities
- Experience of supervising more junior staff/students
- Knowledge of validated assessment tools and outcome measures such as hip fracture databases
- Knowledge of community therapy services and intermediate care services

- Ability to work alone in domiciliary settings and during on-call shifts, including risk assessment and management
