Network Architect

Company: Marex
Apply for the Network Architect
Location: London
Job Description:

Role SummaryThe Network Architect is a senior, hands‑on technical role responsible for the design, evolution, and integrity of Marex’s global network infrastructure. Operating at the intersection of architecture and engineering, the successful candidate will own end‑to‑end network design while remaining deeply embedded in delivery – building, validating and troubleshooting solutions directly. A strong command of automation and Infrastructure as Code is essential; the expectation is that the Architect both defines standards and writes the code that enforces them. This role carries significant influence over network strategy across WAN, LAN, cloud and security domains, and requires a practitioner who leads by doing.

Own the end‑to‑end network architecture for global WAN, LAN, data centre and cloud connectivity – from concept through to production delivery.

Lead the technical design of major network programmes, producing detailed low‑level designs, topology diagrams and implementation runbooks.

Remain hands‑on: configure, deploy and validate network infrastructure personally, acting as the most senior technical resource during critical changes and incidents.

Define and enforce network design standards, patterns and guardrails across the global estate.

Drive automation‑first practices: develop and maintain Python scripts, Ansible playbooks and Terraform configurations to eliminate manual toil and improve consistency.

Act as the primary network consultant to internal lines of business, translating new technical requirements into scalable, supportable designs.

Provide technical leadership during P1 incidents, leading root‑cause analysis and delivering permanent remediation.

Report on network health, architectural roadmap progress and risk posture to senior technology stakeholders.

Champion security‑by‑design principles across all network architecture work, including next‑gen firewalling, segmentation and access control.

Mentor and develop network engineers, raising the overall technical capability of the team.

Work flexibly, including weekend delivery windows, to support critical infrastructure changes.

Adhere to the operational risk framework for your role, ensuring all regulatory and company‑mandated parameters are met.

Act as a role model for the highest standards of integrity, conduct and company values at all times.

The Company may require you to carry out other duties from time to time.

Competencies, Skills and ExperienceEssential Technical Skills & Experience:

Demonstrable track record of designing and delivering complex global network architectures, not just operating them.

Previous experience in banking, financial services or a similarly regulated, latency‑sensitive environment is highly desirable.

WAN Technologies: MPLS, IPSec VPN, SD‑WAN, QoS, NAT, SASE.

Routing & Switching: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, WIFI, VLAN, Multicast.

Security: Next‑generation Layer 7 firewalling, User‑ID, SSL decryption, Network Access Control.

Cloud Networking: AWS (VPCs, Transit Gateways, Direct Connect, VPN Gateways); Azure (VNet, VPN Gateways, ExpressRoute).

Automation & IaC: Python, Ansible playbook design and deployment, Terraform.

Vendors: Palo Alto, Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Aruba (APs, ClearPass NAC).

Packet‑level troubleshooting and analysis across LAN, WAN and security layers.

Understanding of exchange connectivity patterns (e.g. CME, SGX, ICE, Eurex, LME).

Firewall DMZ design and implementation.

Behavioural Competencies

Architectural authority – able to make and defend design decisions under pressure and bring teams along with clear, well‑reasoned rationale.

Hands‑on mindset – no task is beneath this role; the expectation is direct technical contribution, not delegation.

Strategic thinking – able to anticipate future challenges, balancing short‑term delivery with long‑term architectural integrity.

Resilience and adaptability in a fast‑paced, commercially driven environment.

Strong communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to present technical concepts to both engineering peers and non‑technical stakeholders.

Results‑oriented with strong analytical and troubleshooting rigour.

Experience contributing to risk and compliance frameworks in a regulated environment.

Comfortable leading project delivery from inception to production, including vendor and stakeholder management.

Conduct RulesYou must:

Act with integrity.

Act with due skill, care and diligence.

Be open and cooperative with the FCA, the PRA and other regulators.

Pay due regard to the interests of customers and treat them fairly.

Observe proper standard of market conduct.

Act to deliver good outcomes for retail customers.
