Software Engineer | EnergyTech

Company: Oho Group
Apply for the Software Engineer | EnergyTech
Location: London
Job Description:

Founding Software Engineer | EnergyTech Startup | Python, Rust & AI | London (Hybrid)

Help build the operating system for the future of energy.

We’re partnering with an exceptional early-stage EnergyTech startup on the hunt for their first Founding Software Engineer.

This is a rare opportunity to join a small, highly technical team with backgrounds spanning Oxbridge PhDs, world-class research, and cutting-edge software engineering. Together, they’re building the next generation of power market modelling software—using AI to transform how energy systems are analysed, optimised and operated.

If you’re excited by complex technical challenges, ownership from day one, and the chance to shape both the product and engineering culture, this is one worth exploring.

What you’ll be doing

  • Build the core platform powering next-generation electricity market modelling.
  • Design and develop high-performance software using Python and Rust.
  • Leverage modern AI techniques to accelerate development and solve challenging technical problems.
  • Work directly alongside the founders to shape architecture, product direction and technical strategy.
  • Tackle large-scale optimisation, simulation and data-intensive engineering challenges.
  • Help define engineering best practices as one of the company’s earliest hires.

What they’re looking for

  • Strong software engineering experience with Python, ideally alongside Rust (or a willingness to work with it).
  • Deep experience using AI to build software, whether through AI-assisted engineering, agentic workflows or integrating modern AI capabilities into products.
  • A strong understanding of energy markets, electricity systems, power trading, grid optimisation or power market modelling.
  • Someone who thrives in an early-stage environment where ownership, pace and curiosity are valued.
  • A builder who enjoys solving difficult technical problems rather than maintaining legacy systems.
  • Founding engineer opportunity with genuine influence over the company’s future.
  • Work alongside an exceptional team of founders with Oxbridge PhDs and outstanding technical credentials.
  • Solve meaningful problems at the intersection of AI, software engineering and the global energy transition.
  • Build technology with real-world impact on one of the world’s most important industries.
  • Small, collaborative team where every engineer has a significant voice.
  • Hybrid working – 2 days per week in their London office.

If you’re an engineer who combines exceptional technical ability with genuine expertise in AI and the energy sector—and you’re looking for a role where your work will shape both a product and a company from the very beginning,we’d love to hear from you.
