Inspire Confidence Through Sport

We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, and dedicated Unqualified PE Teacher to join an Alternative Provision, supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about sport, physical activity, and making a positive difference in the lives of young people. Whether you are an aspiring teacher, an experienced sports coach, or someone with a background in youth work or physical education, we would love to hear from you.

Working within a supportive and experienced team, you will help deliver engaging PE lessons that promote physical wellbeing, resilience, teamwork, confidence, and positive behaviour.

About the Role

As an Unqualified PE Teacher, you will plan and deliver high-quality physical education lessons that meet the diverse needs of all students. You will create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel safe to participate, develop new skills, and experience success.

Many of the students have experienced disruption to their education and require patient, consistent, and nurturing support to re‑engage with learning. Physical education plays a vital role in promoting emotional wellbeing, self‑regulation, and positive relationships.

You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support students’ personal development while maintaining high expectations for behaviour and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging PE lessons and physical activities for students with SEMH needs.
  • Adapt lessons to meet individual learning, behavioural, and emotional needs.
  • Promote positive participation, teamwork, resilience, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Manage behaviour positively using restorative and trauma‑informed approaches.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Organise and maintain PE equipment and ensure lessons are delivered safely.
  • Support wider school activities, enrichment opportunities, and sporting events where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to support students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

Must‑Hear Must‑Have Qualities

  • Has experience coaching, leading, or delivering sports or physical activity to children or young people.
  • Is passionate about improving outcomes for young people with SEMH needs.
  • Has strong behaviour management skills or is willing to develop them within a specialist setting.
  • Can motivate and inspire students who may have previously disengaged from education.
  • Builds positive, professional relationships based on trust, consistency, and respect.
  • Has excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Is flexible, resilient, and committed to ongoing professional development.

Desirable

  • Level 2 or Level 3 coaching qualification, sports qualification, or relevant degree.
  • Experience working in schools, Alternative Provision, PRUs, youth services, or community sports settings.
  • Knowledge of trauma‑informed practice and restorative approaches.
  • Team Teach, PRICE, or equivalent behaviour management training (or willingness to undertake training).
