We’re looking for a Principal Safety Engineer to take the lead on complex, safety-critical systems across multiple defence platforms – shaping the standards, not just following them.

What you’ll own

• Drive safety analysis that matters: HAZOPs, FTA, FMECA, Functional Failure Analysis – done to Def Stan 00-056 and IEC 61508
• Set the safety requirements that determine whether a system meets the customer’s targets, not just the paperwork
• Stand in front of stakeholders – internal and external – and make the case for safety decisions that stick
• Collaborate across disciplines to raise the bar on every output that carries your name
• Represent the function at design reviews, audits, and safety committees

What you bring

• A track record delivering Systems Safety in UK Defence – degree, HND/HNC, or equivalent hands‑on experience
• Real fluency in IEC 61508 and Def Stan 00-056, not just awareness
• Comfort with COTS PE systems and high-integrity software assurance
• Hands‑on experience with hazard identification, FMECA, FTA, and Functional Failure Analysis
• Confidence building ALARP justifications that hold up under scrutiny
