Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist – Grade Band 8d, Contract Permanent, Full time (37.5 hours per week). Job ref 820-7865783-ASR-D. Site: Moseley Hall Hospital, Town Birmingham.

Salary: £94,356 – £108,814 per annum (Yearly). Closing date: 16/07/2026 23:59.

Job Overview

Consultant Clinical Health Psychologist / Neuropsychologist – Divisional director of clinical health & neuropsychology Services for Adults’ Specialist Rehabilitation (ASR).

Provide strategic and professional leadership for psychology across ASR, covering neurological rehabilitation (Level 1b inpatients), stroke inpatient and outpatient services, acquired brain injury pathways, specialist neurological clinics, MSK/pain services, and child & adult amputee services.

You will have

  • A Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, HCPC registration, with specialist clinical health or neuropsychology training and eligibility for the neuropsychology register, and significant post‑qualification experience.
  • Advanced expertise in complex health or neuropsychological assessment and intervention, strong communication, research, consultation, and supervision skills.
  • Proven leadership, resilience, and a track record of service development, clinical governance, and supporting teams in high‑pressure environments.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Strategic planning, organisational development, professional management, and overall professional delivery of all psychology service provision in conjunction with the Divisional Leadership Team across ASR.
  • Act as the Psychology and Psychological Therapies professional lead and advisor, and Lead Consultant Psychologist for ASR Divisional services, ensuring delivery of psychological governance strategies.
  • Maintain professional accountability for existing Psychology and Psychological Therapy services, ensuring safe, high‑quality psychological governance and representing the service in senior management and commissioning forums.

Qualifications

  • Post‑graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) accredited by the BPS.
  • Registered with the HCPC.
  • Post‑doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice, including neuropsychology.
  • Eligible for inclusion on the specialist register for neuropsychology.

Experience

  • Extensive experience as a registered clinical psychologist with significant post‑qualification experience within the designated speciality.
  • Experience working with a wide variety of client groups across the life course in diverse care settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism when dealing with emotive and potentially abusive situations.
  • Experience exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care within a multidisciplinary care plan and team.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Doctoral‑level knowledge of clinical psychology, lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, neuropsychology, and at least two distinct psychological therapies.
  • Proficiency in complex psychological assessment, intervention, and management requiring sustained concentration.
  • High‑level communication skills, both written and oral, for conveying complex, technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, families, carers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Doctoral‑level knowledge of research design and methodology, including multivariate data analysis.
  • Knowledge of legislation relevant to client groups and highly specialised psychological therapies and assessment methodologies.

DBS Costs

All new employees will be charged for the cost of their DBS check, if required. Standard check costs £26.40; enhanced check costs £54.40. The cost will be deducted from salary in three payments over three months.

For bank workers, the DBS cost will be deducted from pay following completion of online mandatory training. No payment will be made for the training until it is verified.
