The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Staff Grade Doctor to support our NHS medical glaucoma service, providing both clinical and surgical assistance. The successful candidate will have a compassionate approach and deep expertise in glaucoma management and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, evaluate and manage patients with diagnosed or suspected glaucoma and other ocular conditions.
  • Perform diagnostic tests and procedures such as visual field assessments, optical coherence tomography (OCT), VOLT, CCT and gonioscopy.
  • Provide management plans for existing glaucoma referrals.
  • Provide pre‑operative and post‑operative care to patients.
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists, optometrists and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to service development initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families about glaucoma management and treatment options.

What You’ll Need

  • Medical degree from a recognised university.
  • Valid GMC registration with a licence to practise in the UK.
  • Experience in ophthalmology, especially managing glaucoma cases and ability to work independently.
  • UK NHS glaucoma clinic experience.
  • Experience with gonioscopy and SLT laser.
  • Excellent diagnostic and clinical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
