Responsibilities
Duties will include servicing school science laboratories with equipment required for the teaching of science within schools. This includes the use and preparation of chemicals, maintaining stock, microbiology, maintenance of laboratory equipment, physics and simple construction of science equipment. Some elements of the Technical and Digital Technology content of a School Support Service Technician duties will also be covered via Technician Support Service Progression courses and in‑house training during the 4‑year apprenticeship.
Training and Development
Working in a Glasgow Secondary School, the apprentice trains over a 4‑year period toward a Modern Apprenticeship at Level 3 in Laboratory Science under the guidance of a Senior Support Service Technician. External training will be delivered at Clyde College and will lead to an HNC in Applied Sciences. In‑house training with support from an SVQ assessor will lead to an SVQ in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities. Additional in‑house training will be provided via the Technician Support Service – Technician Progression Scheme and the Scottish Schools Educational Research Centre Technician CPD Training Scheme courses. Completion of a Technician Passport will occur during the 4‑year apprenticeship.
