Job Description:

Planning Solicitor (NQ–5 PQE)

If you’re a Planning Solicitor looking for high-quality work without sacrificing work-life balance, this is an opportunity to join a highly regarded team advising on some of the most interesting planning and development projects in the market.

Working alongside experienced partners, you’ll advise an impressive client base including developers, landowners, private clients, businesses and public sector organisations on a broad range of planning matters. You’ll gain exposure to complex, high-value work from day one, while also having the autonomy to manage your own caseload and build long-term client relationships.

This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, wants to broaden their technical expertise, and is looking for a firm where career progression is based on quality rather than volume.

The Role

You’ll be involved in a wide range of planning law matters, including:

  • Planning applications, appeals and objections
  • Section 106 Agreements and Highways Agreements (S38/S278)
  • Judicial Review and High Court challenges
  • Enforcement, prosecutions and Certificates of Lawfulness
  • Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPOs), village greens and public rights of way
  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) matters

The work spans both contentious and non-contentious planning law, with clients ranging from private individuals through to major developers and public bodies.

Why This Opportunity?

This is a team that offers the quality of work often associated with much larger firms, but in an environment where lawyers are given genuine support to develop their careers.

You’ll benefit from:

  • Direct mentoring and day-to-day access to experienced partners.
  • Early responsibility and the opportunity to manage your own matters.
  • A varied and technically interesting caseload.
  • Exposure to high-profile development and infrastructure projects.
  • A sensible approach to workloads that supports long-term career development.

About You

We’re keen to speak with solicitors who have:

  • Newly Qualified to 5 years’ PQE in Planning Law.
  • Experience across planning matters, whether contentious, non-contentious or a mix of both.
  • Strong technical ability and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.
  • A genuine interest in developing a long-term career within planning law.

Experience in environmental, energy or wider regulatory work would be an advantage, although it’s by no means essential.

You’ll also enjoy getting involved in networking and business development, helping to build relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the team.
